MV MAMA EVENT - WOMEN’S TRAINING ON SURVIVAL AT SEA.

Tanzania Marine Swimming Club is organizing “MV MAMA EVENT” for two days free theory and practical skills for women as community awareness on survival at sea and life serving for community members living around water bodies and specifically Dar-Es-Salaam.  This event will be held in May 2015 at Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy Ground (Kigamboni). The training will consist of 100 participants.  Our Advisor is Pili Omari - Mrs Major General SS Omar (Tanzania Navy Commander).

MV MAMA” event which is special for women has been brought up by the historic and cultural make up of Tanzania.  Cultural and traditional practices do not give women chance to learn swimming or survival at sea skills as they are not involved and other water activities as applies to men. In the actual sense women spend most of their time with children, crossing rivers in search for water and other daily activities. Women are potentially the key players in rising children, teach and create awareness to the community members on how to overcome those risks that are brought up by lack of skills in swimming and survival at sea. Swimming plays a big role in maintaining good health, as a career in spots and leisure. The club has experienced great achievement by one of its swimmer who is “a girl” receiving national and international recognition   compared to boys swimmers in the club.

Response of the people who want to participate in this event is big and currently more than 50 have shown interest and registering daily. Training Program categorize main topics to be covered in details will be; Water Surface rules, Swimming, Survival at Sea and Rescue, Rescustation, River crossing and environmental protection around water bodies.
